OUR COMPANY
Helping People Feel Ready, One Step at a Time
Pensara was founded on the straightforward idea that retirement paperwork should not feel overwhelming. We are here to make the process quieter.

Where Pensara Comes From
Pensara grew out of a simple observation. A number of people approaching retirement — or already there — were spending a great deal of energy worrying about paperwork they did not fully understand. Not because they were unprepared, but because the resources available to them were written for professionals, not for ordinary people looking through a shoebox of old documents.
We opened in Chiang Mai in 2019 with one aim: to offer a calm, patient place where anyone could sit down with their documents, ask any question without embarrassment, and leave with a clearer picture than they arrived with.
The name Pensara draws on the Thai word for stepping forward thoughtfully. That is what we encourage — a steady, considered approach to getting your records in order, without rushing and without pressure.
OUR MISSION
What We Are Here to Do
Our role is to sit alongside you as you look at your retirement-related records — not to make decisions for you, and not to replace the qualified professionals who handle official matters. We are educators and organisers who believe that being well-informed and well-prepared makes the conversations you have with those official bodies much more productive.
We work with individuals, couples, and whole households. We welcome people at every starting point, whether they have their documents neatly filed or have not yet thought about where anything is. No question is too basic, and nothing is assumed.
Every session ends with something you can hold in your hands — a printed checklist, a summary, or a complete filing guide — so the work you do with us stays useful long after you leave.
THE PEOPLE HERE
Who You Will Meet
Our small team brings together backgrounds in records management, adult education, and customer support. We are all based in Chiang Mai.
Margaret Thorne
FOUNDER & LEAD EDUCATOR
Margaret spent twelve years in records management before founding Pensara. She leads the one-to-one walkthroughs and the group learning series, and has a particular talent for making complicated paperwork feel approachable.
Kirati Suwannarat
RECORDS ORGANISER
Kirati coordinates the Household Records Organisation Programme, visiting clients at home and helping families build logical, easy-to-follow filing systems. He is calm, methodical, and thorough.
Anne Nakamura
CLIENT COORDINATOR
Anne handles enquiries, schedules sessions, and makes sure each client knows exactly what to expect before they arrive. She speaks English, Thai, and Japanese, and is the first person most clients speak to.
HOW WE WORK
Our Standards
These are the commitments we make to every person who works with us, regardless of which session they choose.
Document Confidentiality
Any records you share with us during a session are treated with complete discretion. We do not retain copies and do not share details with any third party.
Educational Scope Only
We are clear about what we do and do not do. Our sessions cover information and organisation. We do not offer financial, legal, or official guidance, and we always say so when something falls outside our scope.
Pace Set by the Client
No session is rushed. If something needs revisiting, we revisit it. If a topic needs more time, we take more time. The session ends when you feel settled, not when a clock runs out.
Plain-Language Commitment
We review all written materials to ensure they use clear, everyday language. Every glossary term is explained before it appears in any document we hand to a client.
No Obligation Enquiries
Contacting us to ask a question carries no obligation. We welcome calls and messages from people simply wanting to understand what a session involves before deciding anything.
Regularly Updated Materials
We review our printed checklists, glossaries, and summaries regularly to keep them accurate. When official processes change, our materials are updated before the next client session.
OUR APPROACH
Retirement Paperwork Support That Starts Where You Are
A great many people reach retirement age — or start thinking seriously about it — with a complicated collection of documents, statements, letters, and records gathered over a working lifetime. Some of those papers are important. Some may no longer be needed. And for most people, it is genuinely difficult to tell the difference without a knowledgeable guide.
Pensara offers that guidance in Chiang Mai. Our approach focuses on three practical areas: helping individuals build and maintain a clear document checklist, offering group sessions that explain how retirement-related paperwork fits together in plain terms, and working with households to create an organised, labelled set of records that family members can follow.
We work across the northern Thailand expatriate and local community, supporting people from a range of countries and backgrounds. Sessions are conducted in English and can be arranged at a pace that suits the participant. Nothing in a Pensara session is rushed, and nothing is left unclear.
What sets our service apart is not any specialised qualification — it is a commitment to patience, clarity, and respect for each person's starting point. We have sat with people who had folders full of neatly filed documents and people who had never opened certain envelopes. Both are equally welcome, and both leave better prepared than when they arrived.
